You CAN make a difference…

Members from the Federation believe that tenant involvement is really important. Involvement in local tenants and residents Associations involves both tenants and landlords (Cannock Chase District Council) in the sharing of ideas, allowing tenants to influence decisions regarding their homes.

This can cover everything from influencing and working with the Council on all housing and housing service issues. It involves gathering and sharing of information, monitoring and policy and decisions and holding the Council to account for performance.

This leads to community development:-

    • a commitment to bring people together
    • to explore issues and understand the causes of concerns
    • helps communities identify changes they want to make
    • encourages local people to feel that they can make a difference
    • learning from what has been done before
    • supporting people to agree visions and priorities
    • agreeing ways to assess progress
    • helps communities to make plans and build the organisation
    • supports individuals to become and stay involved

Working together with the Council can achieve more appropriate and better quality services, better value for the money tenants pay in rent, increased community involvement and a pride in the area which may lead to more social contact and brining the community together.

The Federation are looking to promote further the profile of existing tenants and residents groups and to develop more Associations in the Cannock Chase area.

If you are interested, or want to offer any help, then please contact the Federation.

CTRF - 20th Anniversary - 'A time to celebrate'

Chase Tenants & Residents Federation celebrated their 20th Anniversary at an Annual Meeting on Tuesday 23rd June 2015 at The Barns, Huntington. The meeting was attended by over 40 delegates from local Tenants and Residents Associations, Council Officers and guest speaker Jenny Osbourne from the Tenant Empowerment Service known as TPAS.

The meeting welcomed Cliff Ash, the first Chairperson of the Federation. Councillor Frank Allen (Portfolio for Housing) and Ian Tennant (Head of Housing and Waste Management) both from Cannock Chase Council also attended.

Anne Ames (Chairperson) reflected on how this was a special occasion reminding guests that the vision to establish the Federation came 20 years ago. Cliff Ash, the first Chairperson of the Federation was praised for the way in which the Federation gained recognition from Cannock Chase Council. In welcoming the Formation of the Federation, Anne reminded the meeting of the words of Councillor Bagguley who said, ‘The Federation will be a considerable benefit to the Council in presenting the common interests of its members’. Echoing those founding remarks, Anne issued the challenge ‘that interest still prevails’ adding ‘we must remember what our real function is, to represent tenants and residents with regard to housing policy, estate management and making sure that the voice of residents is heard’.

Anne paid tribute and expressed the appreciation of the Federation to all those who had worked tirelessly within groups, both past and present, individuals giving freely of their time and effort. The challenges for the future were mentioned with a pledge to make the Federation a ‘progressive and pro-active’ organisation equipped for the challenges ahead..

Jenny Osbourne Chief Executive of TPAS (Tenants Empowerment Association) said this was a ‘fantastic achievement’. Congratulating the Federation on its 20th Anniversary Jenny said ‘it is still a vibrant Federation, and you should all be proud of the tenant involvement in the Chase area’.

Councillor Frank Allen (Portfolio Member for Housing added that ‘the Federation have made a significant contribution over the past twenty years’ and ‘without the Federation, Council Housing would be far poorer’.

Ian Tenant (Head of Housing and Waste Management) commented ‘it has been a pleasure working with you all over the past twenty years’. ‘This is a unique relationship with shared values at the heart of the Housing Service for Cannock Chase’.
